How does the home insurance comparison service work?

The service compares your individual insurance profile (based on the details you give us) against products from almost all the main UK direct and other insurers. Your details allow us to make an accurate assessment of your needs and offer the right policy and insurer for the best price.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This is a service whereby Insurancewide.com Services Ltd, an intermediary, introduces you to insurance which you can buy direct from authorised insurance providers and other authorised intermediaries ("Insurers") in various ways including on the Insurers' websites and by phone. Insurancewide does not advise on or recommend or sell, and is not responsible for or in connection with, any insurance products or services. These are subject amongst other things to the Insurers' separate terms and conditions which you should read. Your use of Insurancewide's service, and Insurancewide's use of your data, are are subject to Insurancewide's terms and conditions and privacy policy. Insurancewide.com Services Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

How many insurance companies do you work with?

Insurancewide are market leaders and pride themselves on the number of insurance companies they work with and the range of insurance policies they can offer. The insurance market consists of insurance companies like Royal Sun Alliance or Norwich Union, high street brokers, and direct insurers like Direct Line. High street brokers can only access 60% of the market as direct insurers don’t offer their rates through them. Direct insurers only want to offer their own rates. However our service, powered by Insurancewide, is a unique on-line marketplace which can offer over 90% of the rates offered by both the main insurance companies and the direct insurers.

Won’t it be cheaper to go straight to the insurer’s website?

No, the rates we offer will either be exactly the same or in some cases cheaper, because Insurancewide arranges special deals for its customers with insurers.

What happens after I click "Search for insurers"?

You’ll be directed to a page listing a number of insurers’ websites. Many policies are designed to be completed online for ease, although phone helplines are available. The helplines are displayed on the websites of the relevant insurers.

Please note: It’s in your interest to read all the small print such as terms and conditions and privacy policy published by the insurers.

Why do you need my email address?

When you complete the home insurance form, Insurancewide uses your data to identify which insurers best suit your needs. Insurancewide will also send you a confirmation email with links to the relevant insurers in case you decide not to proceed with a quote at the time.

What is building insurance?

Buildings insurance is concerned with the fabric of your home and safeguards against the repair costs associated with fire, storm damage and floods etc. Mortgage companies insist on buildings insurance being in place as part of your mortgage deal.

What is contents insurance?

What is an excess payment?

An excess payment is charged by the insurer to you to cover the first part of any claim. The amount you’ll be expected to pay varies from policy to policy. Always check this in the policy small print.
