FAQ

What area do the figures cover?

The figures are provided to local authority level. Each police force is responsible for all councils within their boundaries. All crime figures are per 10,000 of the population.

Is the population figure you use based on the census?

No, the population figures for each local authority are the 2006 mid-year estimate provided by the General Register Office for Scotland.

Why are some headings in capitals?

The table has several capitalised headings

e.g. MOTOR VEHICLE OFFENCES which indicate crime and offence categories. Each category heading is followed by a list of all the relevant crimes or offences.
