To ensure democracy both in local and national government, adults aged 18 or over are eligible to vote for representatives from political parties, or independent candidates, to represent the local area.
Devolution in 1999 saw the Welsh Assembly assume its full powers. It consists of 60 elected Assembly Members (AMs).
