Since September last year, people have been discussing how safe they feel in their local area on this page.
Crime is a thorny subject, and not something anyone likes to think about. But with ongoing campaigns in the media, and the decisions we need to make when moving, it's not something anyone can escape. Tell us how safe you feel where you live.

I live in Burnside South lanarkshire and feel pretty safe in my own home. Granted there are some unsavory characters that you may come across every so often but the same can be said of anywhere in the country. There are unfortunately always going to be the minority who will spoil it for the good people who just go about their daily lives minding their own business. What upsets me is that no-body is prepared to help anyone else these days and are very quick to judge people solely on apperance sakes. People don't seem to trust each other anymore i find that very sad and it says alot about society. We all need to start trusting each other again and standing up for each other if we are to get anywhere in solving the issues of crime and also put a stop to the media creating this new Panic Nation they are quite happily brainwashing us all with. It's time we started focusing on the positive rather than the negative.

I am English and have lived in Scotland Since leaving the Army in the 70's and find most of the problems with British society are reported down south, I believe this has a lot to do with BBC news stories being transmitted nationally, when they should be kept local. Scotland (Glasgow) appears to get a bad press also along with all of the English city areas. When it comes to crime ASBOS etc rural Scotland is going unreported along with many of the English rural areas - my take oin this is, CITY LIVING IS UNHEALTHY. 21st century dark satanic mills.

i am semi retired and am looking to live in the oulton broad area of lowerstoft , or around there somewhere , can you tell me what it is like to live there and anything on crime rate

I live in Haringey: if I were to judge by local crime statistics I would be rushing to leave -in fact I personally have (thus far!) been unaffected by any semblance of crime. That is not to say crime is not occurring here, I simply need look at the local paper to confirm that. I'm now looking for a more rural area as a retirement home and sadly discover from crime statistics that this problem seems to exist nationwide with only slight variations - once country areas were fairly crime free with simply a local bobby on a bike covering several villages: what a horrible transformation our advancing so called `civilisation' has brought! Does anyone know of a rural area -in Britain- where the old fashioned values I've described still prevail. Please let me and the world know?

I am thinking of living in St Albans behind the old cinema on Old London street. Is that part of town ok, especially if I'm walking back from the station late at night on my own?

I lived in Peckham till I married then moved to Orpington.
While living in these areas I never felt threatened, although now both areas have deteriorated, Peckham being the worst.
We are now planning on moving to the Winchester, Salisbury areas.
Are these good areas to live?
Salisbury is infested with halfway houses and bed and
breakfast for young offenders from as far as Bourne
mouth. My son was attacked twice and robbed. The
second time they pushed him off his new bike and stole
it.We lived there for 6 years and now have moved.

I live on the Littledale Estate in Kirkby. I have lived here since 2001 and can honestly say I have never had any trouble, crime against me or my property. I am not naive enough to think that suddenly this area is crime free but I feel there has been an improvement in recent years.
