The best and worst areas for crime in the UK

17-06-08, UpMyStreet

Crime affects most people at some point in their lives - the charity Victim Support was in contact with nearly 1.5m victims in 2007. There are 28 gun crimes committed every day in the UK, and as levels of some crimes fall (recorded robberies - down 21%) others rise (drug offences - up 20%).

Crime levels vary dramatically according to where you live. In 2006/7, 62% of all robberies in England and Wales were recorded by just three police forces, according to the Home Office: Metropolitan Police, Greater Manchester and West Midlands. With the regional figures provided on UpMyStreet, you can make informed decisions about moving and protecting your home and family.

It is easy to blame immigrants but if it wasn't for immigrants there wouldn't be business open in this county past 3pm and nothing on the weekend. I think the people of Britain should be thankful for those that come from OS to make your life better (and dramatically improve your sporting teams!) Believe me, if everyone from OS went home, this place would collapse within a week!

The only real criminals in this country are the government that is set to tax us all to death.

i dont known why we are all so taken back with the crime rates in this country, it dont take a great brain to work out why its going up every year. lets take a trip back in time, i remember when most people felt safe, walking down the street leaving doors open etc, the fact is that aint the way anymore in built up areas why is that? i will tell you why, its because the country(gb) aint ours anymore. i am not paranoid and what i say is a fact, too many imigrants have lowered our values and half of the white kids think they are members of some bloody new york gang, and this is because we have let the little s***s get away with it, i could go on for ever about this but no one ever listens. please if you disagree with me dont even bother to reply because you are wrong

Dont blame the immigrants, John! Blame parents and the present government. There is so much government interference with raising kids that parents have lost control of their kids.In the good old days you could smack your kids if they fall out of line, but you dare not do that these days without being done for cruelty. Infact immigrants behave well generally, since most of them are here to do the jobs we brits dont like, make a bit of money and go back home!

I think to blame immigrants for the issues in our country is shallow and distasteful. Governments issue quotas of numbers in and out of the country for their own benefits. Governments agree (despite public majority opinion) to go gung ho into other lands with the USA and destroy villages where those left have nothing to live for (the ones who are alive!). How can you blame immigrants for wanting to leave a life of misery. The majority of our problems in this country are 'local' bound ripple effect of the 'next generation'. Single parents, teenage pregancies and parents not able to 'know' how to bring there children up becuase they were so young in the first place! either that or parents palming kids off with money to get them away so they continue their 'busy' lives. If your given enough benefits for having children, who would want to work or be motivated? The solution starts with 'educating' parents and children about 'values', take away the obsession of 'alchohol' and give them responsibilies for themselves. It seems obvious to me and I have live here all my life! (as a british citizen).

When there are no good activities e.g. music, sports, community events life be come much more boring and miserable obviously and problem starts it’s almost certain that bureaucracy led lots of good venues inoperative or no go for young lad’s priority for local gov very embarrassing revenues from fines!! Etc etc so instead of blaming youngsters have a wide view and dig deep to go to root.

I have just watched Traffic Cops with my 13 year old son. Is it any wonder we have so much trouble with youths as young as 13 stealing cars, joyriding etc. Several were caught redhanded, on camera and were later released without charge, including a thug who threw a bottle through a church hall window, injuring one lady, then assaulting 2 members of the public who gave chase and restrained himuntil the police came. Not only is that ridiculous in itself, but why are they showing it on TV? I didnt know how to explain it when my son asked why they didnt get punished.

What about a return to some sort of National Service? Not in the army though, a separate service. This can be with youths male or female. Get them off the streets between ages 16 to 22. Or insist that they stay at school. Stop the binge drinking, let's get back to morality. Girls showing off their underwear and worse... yuk. Stop showing USA as an example a lot of our problems stem from what they see on tv and films which is violence from USA. Our PM should not show hero worship of such as George W Bush or as they call him in the Southern Hemisphere "DUBWA". He is a bad example wanting war constantly to protect the USA not caring about UK. 45 years ago my father warned me to BEWARE of America they would get us into all sorts of trouble. He was so right!

It comes down to parents, the government and society saying "No" occasionally, meaning it and taking appropriate action if it is ignored.

62% of all robberies committed within the three areas of the highest populations - so why is this remarkable !! Statistics suggest this should be the case !

A more accurate gage of what is really going on is to show statistics as a percentage of area population. With this in mind read the figures again about places like Porthsmouth, Nottingham & Cardiff. These are more horrifying as you might expect the worst figures to come out of London - the most densely populated city in the UK! And the city with the most immigrants in the UK.

Proof perhaps rising crime figures are not solely down to immigrants, though certain types of fraud (ATM & identity) may be the result of high immigration and outsourcing by Banks etc. to Indian call centres.

To get to the bottom of the problem untie the hands of policemen, parents & teachers. Allow them to do their jobs and discipline little hoodie wearing scumbags. Do not constantly feed & cloth. foul-mouthed, lay-abouts who've never done a day's work and whose offspring ARE the hoodie wearing scumbags. Then place restrictions on the amount of legal aid greedy, corrupt lawyers can earn from using 'human rights' as a get out - particularly for hardened criminals & terrosists.

Use the law to protect the decent folk and NOT to defend dregs of humanity!
