Location tips
- Please type either a postcode or a single place name in the box - please avoid combinations like "London SW1" and street names
- UpMyStreet works best when a full British postcode is entered (e.g. SW1E 5BH)
- You can also search by postcode district (e.g. SW1) or by postcode sector (e.g. SW1E 5)
- If you don’t know the postcode, try the Royal Mail’s postcode finder
Postcode tips
- Please check that you’ve typed the postcode correctly you may have typed an "O" instead of a zero or the figure "1" instead of an "I"
- Please type in postcodes without spaces: "SW1E" not "SW 1 E"
- Please check that the postcode you have is a correct postcode for Great Britain we’ve information covering postcodes in England, Scotland and Wales
- Your postcode may not be on our database – perhaps because it’s new or because it’s the postcode of business premises covering more than one location. If the full postcode doesn’t work , you could try using the sector postcode "SW1E 5" or the district "SW1E"
Place name tips
- Please check that the name is spelt correctly – place names within England, Scotland and Wales should be recognised, if correctly spelt - please check hyphens and apostrophes: "King’s Cross" not "Kings Cross"
- Are you using a street name? Please use either a postcode
- or a place name - please don’t use street names
- Please enter a single place name - please avoid combinations like "Soho, London"
- Please enter place names in full - please avoid common short forms: not "Clacton" but "Clacton-on-Sea"
- We recognise almost all official British place names - but some more general terms like "Peak District" and "South Dorset" won’t be recognised
- Location still not recognised? You could try a postcode instead. If you don’t know the postcode, try the Royal Mail’s postcode finder
Confirming a location
If we’ve information on more than one location with the same name, we’ll show you the list of places with that name. Just click on the one you want. The postcode is shown after the name to help you choose.
Changing location
You can enter a new location at any time. Just use the Change your location box in the top left corner and click >Go.
Remember this location
You can save time when you visit UpMyStreet with this feature. Tick the box and we’ll customise services and information to that location next time you use the site. If you remember SW1E 5BH, for example, you’ll go straight to the home page for that postcode each time you visit. If you’re a registered user, you can change your remembered location at any time by editing your profile.
